Adam Ellis
Velo Race Performance
Level 3 Road and Time Trial Coach
Velo Race Performance is built on my extensive racing and coaching experience that I have developed over 40 years of racing and coaching in all areas of the sport.
I’ve been involved in competitive cycling for as long as I can remember. Starting off in the 80’s with BMX racing at a National level and then onto MTB racing in the early 90’s. An unhealthy obsession with Time Trials in the late 90’s followed by an 18 month dabble at Triathlon and completing Ironman Lanzarote in 2005. I’ve continued competing in Road Races and Cyclo-cross throughout the 90’s to the present day finishing in the top 10 at the Masters National Champs in 2018.
I began coaching at the very start of the British Cycling Go-ride scheme and helped turn my local club Spalding CC into one of the first Sports England club mark accredited clubs.
I continued to develop as a coach helping local riders and assisting in the British Cycling East Midlands youth development, coaching at the regional schools of racing. I helped support the SRAM youth team for 3 years assisting at all the National youth road races. I’ve been the team manager for the East Mids Junior road team for two years 2017 and 2018, having great success with the team at the Junior Tour of Wales. I’ve taken numerous riders over to Belgium and France to race Cyclo-cross and road at Junior level so I have a good understanding of the standard required.

Outside of Cycling I joined the Royal Navy at 16 serving for just over 7 years. I served on board HMS London during the first Gulf war in 1991. My time in the Navy made me aware of how important team work is in all walks of life and this is something I pass onto my riders today.
After leaving the Navy in 1996, I joined Norfolk Fire and Rescue service, serving 25 years and retiring in Aug 2021. My time in the fire service taught me to be successful listener and communicator. You never know who you will be helping, new day new challenges.

I’ve now continued on the journey developing my coaching and looking for new and exciting projects to start.
